E.ON - Data Strategy Advisory

Industry: Energy & Utilities

Situation

E.ON was seeking to strengthen its enterprise data capability in order to support improved operational insight, customer analytics, and more effective data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

Like many large energy providers, the organisation operated a complex landscape of operational, billing, customer management, and regulatory systems. Data was distributed across multiple platforms, and the organisation required a clearer strategic framework to guide how data would be managed, integrated, and leveraged across the business.

Senior leadership recognised the need for a structured enterprise data strategy that would provide a clear direction for future data platform development, governance structures, and the broader evolution of the organisation’s data capabilities.

Given the scale of the environment and the importance of the initiative, experienced independent guidance was required to help shape a practical and achievable enterprise data strategy aligned with both technology and business priorities.

Action

I acted as an advisor to senior stakeholders and programme leadership responsible for shaping the organisation’s enterprise data strategy.

Working with business leaders, enterprise architects, and data platform teams, I provided guidance on the development of a structured strategic framework that would support the organisation’s long-term data capabilities.

My advisory work included:

  • Advising on the development of the organisation’s enterprise data strategy

  • Supporting the alignment of data architecture with broader business and technology objectives

  • Providing guidance on the evolution of enterprise data platforms and analytics capabilities

  • Contributing to governance approaches supporting enterprise data management

  • Helping stakeholders understand the organisational and architectural changes required to support a modern data capability

  • Supporting the alignment of strategic objectives with ongoing data platform and transformation initiatives

This advisory work helped ensure that the emerging strategy was grounded in both the organisation’s operational realities and its long-term data ambitions.

Outcome

The enterprise data strategy provided E.ON with a clear framework for developing its data capabilities across the organisation.

The strategy helped define the direction for enterprise data architecture, platform evolution, and governance structures while supporting the organisation’s ambition to strengthen analytics capability and data-driven decision-making.

The work also helped align business stakeholders, architecture teams, and delivery programmes around a shared strategic direction for the organisation’s data environment.
